Type in the box at the right (or at bottom) = You may find your ancestors here.

However, you won’t if their identity hasn’t satisfied our rigid list of qualifications:

  • They must be dead
  • They must have had (or once have had) the surname, “Knowlton” . . . . . . . . . .       . . . . . or been married to someone who did.
  • They must be credentialed (source documented)

Ultimately, there will be thousands of ‘profiles’ to be searched here.  This is the area of Finding Knowltons which will be in perpetual update.  If you are looking for a known or presumed identity, the simplest thing to do is enter a first-name, eg  == Robert ==  in the search box.  If you have a birth date, include that to narrow the search; eg  == Robert b. 12 May 1800 == (in that format – though you may not know day/month); eg,  == Robert b. Middleshire, Ma. == (county, state) if you have a birthplace.  Click on the appropriate search result to see the full record.

Our goal here at Finding Knowltons is to document as many proven familial relationships as possible (no small task).   However, all vital and extra events for a given identity are not provided.  Instead, you will find this site to be rich in helpful links and guidance in your pursuit to ‘flesh out’ each of your ancestors.

At each profile post you will find proven parent and child information.

The identity’s name/birth will be color-coded burnt orange if he/she descends from John (S2)* ; or, green, if he/she descends from William (S3)*; or, gray, if an identity is not proven.  If a parent or child also has a profile at Finding Knowltons, it will appear in blue-gray and their name provides a link to it.

Additionally, at the bottom of each profile, there is a menu string of links to online locations which recognize the identity.  Only the blue-gray text in this line is active.  These are provided for your convenience… the validity of the information is not guaranteed. View a generic template here.

If you have questions, corrections, or disputes, we welcome you to make them known to us… at the Welcome page.
